KEY Issues
The three major responsibilities of the School Committee are as follows:
1. To develop the annual school department budget
2. To set and review policies
3. To hire and evaluate the Superintendent

responsible budgeting
I believe that at this juncture we need a reorganization of the District’s finances and Finance Department in addition to long-term, strategic Facilities and Capital Improvement Projects planning, with the focus being on ALL existing school facilities rather than concentrating solely on a new middle school.
trust in our educators and our administrators
Micromanaging should not be occurring. In hiring a superintendent, the School Committee is telling the community that they have properly vetted and chosen an experienced leader whom they trust to run the District. This includes his hiring and employee oversight decisions, which means that we should expect to have top notch employees who continue to work hard for our students’ education, safety and well-being, and to ensure the success of the NKSD. Members of the School Committee should not be second-guessing every decision made by the administration, with the exception of any egregious act that would put the students or employees of the District at risk. Collaboration is key; micromanagement is a sign of mistrust.
